Description
Beach of Viticcio – Portoferraio
These are five, small, free beaches that look out from the tiny village of Viticcio, but only the two middle ones are easy to get to; a path with some steps gets you there, and they are separated from each other by a cliff covered in lush, Mediterranean bush.
They are all completely natural; here the sea is crystal clear, and the view of the Enfola peninsula, as well as that of the western coastline of the island of Elba with Monte Capanne at its back is unbelievable. At sunset the sky turns red, and the entire panorama before you seems almost magical.
Each one is 70 metres long and consists of pebbles and shingle; they are all very sheltered and exposed to western winds only. The sea bed is part rocks and part sand, and the crystal clear water goes from blue to turquoise, especially on days when the scirocco wind is blowing.
Perfect if you want a truly relaxing day in beaches that are like no other!
Take the road from Portoferraio and head for Enfola. Turn left at the roundabout that is about 4 km farther along and keep going for about 400 metres. The public bus service also takes you there.
