The Beach of Schiopparello
In the past, it was mostly locals who went to the beach of Schiopparello – Le Prade, but in the past few years, thanks to its natural beauty, the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere to be found there, and the fact that it is easy to get to, it has been granted the attention it rightly deserves.
The beach, 400 metres long, lies at the end of a large area of grassland, and consists of colourful pebbles mixed with sand. The whole beach is free, and the tamarisks at the back provide some shade. The best time to go is on days when a scirocco wind is blowing, because the water is even clearer that what it usually is, and the sea bed is even better if you want to do some snorkeling.
Facing northwards, the view of Portoferraio and its fortresses, as well as that of the magnificent Castello del Volterraio on the right, is breathtaking.
The beach is 800 metres past the junction at Bar La Curva on the road for Bagnaia, and a short grit road takes you right to the beach.
