Description
Beach of Nisportino
The bay in Nisportino is one of the few that is still more or less completely natural and has managed to keep its original, natural beauty despite the inevitable changes that tourism has brought to the island.
It is perfect if you want to “get away from it all” and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday in the heart of nature.
The beach is 140 metres long and 30 metres wide; it is exposed to only the west and northwest winds because it is well sheltered by the promontories. It consists of coarse sand and small, brightly coloured pebbles, and a lush, reed thicket separates it from the green valley with only one or two hotels behind it. The water in this bay is crystal clear, and the cliffs on either side are perfect for doing some snorkeling.
There are no bathing establishments, but there is a bar/pizzeria as well as a sun bed and umbrella rental on the left; you can also rent small boats.
A boat trip to the nearby, deserted and natural beaches of Rivercina, Mangani and Pisciatoio, where the water is crystal clear as far as Capo Poro, is a must, not forgetting the small, uncontaminated beaches as far as Bagnaia.
Just follow the scenic, asphalt road from Rio nell’Elba (about 5,5 kilometres). If, on the other hand, you’re coming from Portoferraio, start off at Bagnaia and follow the asphalt road for about 8 kilometres: from here the panorama of the steep cliffs that go right down to the Gulf of Portoferraio is absolutely breathtaking.
