Description
Beach of Istia
Nature and scenery have remained untouched over the years in Istia beach, so it is perfect for those who want a truly peaceful and quiet holiday.
The beach is 180 metres long, and is on the eastern side of the Island of Elba, at the edge of the Costa dei Gabbiani Holiday Village, of which it is part; it consists of sand and tiny stones, and is enclosed in the promontory of Calanova that is rich in pine trees, with the tiny island of Liscoli at the far end. The wide variety of fish make it perfect also for snorkeling.
Sun beds, sun umbrellas, pedalòs and small boats can be rented on the beach; if you want to cool down a little or have a nap in the shade, there is a pine grove at the back, that also separates Istia from Calanova beach, where you will also find a bar and a restaurant.
Since the bay is facing eastwards, when summer is practically at an end it is partially in the shade by late afternoon.
Starting off at Capoliveri, you can get to the beach by following the signs for Straccoligno for about 5 km. At one point the road becomes grit and further along a chain across it allows you no further, so you have to park your car at Calanova beach, then walk for about 150 metres.
