Description
Beach of Chiessi
The beach in the town of Chiessi, in the Commune of Marciana, is on the furthermost part of the western side of the Island of Elba. The water in this beautiful, sheltered cove is crystal clear, and the breathtaking view of the horizon when the sun sets over Corsica is like no other that can be seen from Elba.
The fact that there are no bathing establishments that might spoil the nature makes the beach seem even more magical.
This small beach is only 70 metres long, and consists of medium sized, light grey pebbles, and smooth, flat granite rocks that are perfect for going into the sea or sunbathing. There are holes in some of the rocks for sitting your sun umbrella in while you sit back and admire the crystal clear sea.
A constant sea breeze keeps you cool while you’re on the beach and makes the area perfect for surfing; this beach is one of the most popular on the island among lovers of this sport, because in the afternoon the crosswind blows gently across the sea only 400 metres from the beach.
The magnificent, ever changing colours of the sea bed, rich in flora and fauna in between the cliffs that from high up plunge deep down into the sea, make snorkelling and deep sea diving even more fascinating.
The original part of the sea town is still in very good condition; just park your car and a short walk will take you right to the beach.
Make sure you go to the nearby, rugged and natural beaches of Punta Nera and Campo Lo Feno, but bear in mind that you can get to them by sea only.
It is easy to get to the sea town of Chiessi, on the west of Elba, both by car and by bus. The beach is only 150 metres from the town centre.
