Beach of Cavo
It is the perfect beach for those who want to spend a relaxing day on the beach in a true, holiday atmosphere, and thanks to the water being shallow till far out it is also perfect for families with small children.
The beach of Cavo runs the full length of the coastline on the gulf, and is divided into two parts. The tiny, tourism port where both the ferries and the hydrofoil come in is in the middle, but you need not worry because thanks to the currents in the stretch of water between Elba and Piombino the sea is always clean and crystal clear.
The southern part of the beach, also called San Bennato beach, consisting of a narrow stretch of sand mixed with pebbles, is about 400 metres long. The northern part, past the small port, is also about 400 metres long, and consists of both fine, white pebbles and sand. You can go for a very pleasant walk in the area that runs behind it , enriched with attractive sculptures, or sit and relax on one of the benches in the shade of the many palm trees.
There are two breakwaters made of flat, smooth rocks, built to protect the coast from erosion, so they are perfect for sunbathing and admiring the view of the crystal clear, deep blue sea.
There are several facilities not just on the beach itself but also along the sea front and in the alleys of the town. There is both a diving as well as a sailing school in Cavo.
If you look across the water you can easily see the promontory of Piombino, the nearest place on the mainland, as well as the tiny island of Cerboli.
It is very easy to get to the beach, on foot if you’re coming from the centre of Cavo, or by car if you’re coming from the outskirts.
