Description
The Beach Cala dei Frati
In Portoferraio, on the northern side of the Island of Elba, Cala dei Frati is 150 metres long, and consists of small, brilliant white shingle. The only way to get to the beach is by boat from the more famous Le Ghiaie beach, separated from it by some cliffs, and this, needless to say means it is always very quiet.
The water is so clear it hardly seems real, and the sea offers many different tones of blue, so if you go when the scirocco wind is blowing, the colour, the reflections and you emotions will all seem unreal.
If you do any breath-hold diving, you will come across many different species of fish because the beach is part of the Scoglietto Marine Reserve for Biology Protection, and the tiny island opposite the beach, Lo Scoglietto, is a paradise for scuba divers.
You can either swim or sail to the beach in a pedalò from Le Ghiaie.
